Assult on Mt. Mitchell

I final got into the Assault on Mt. Mitchell this year. The ride "race" was yesterday and somewhere between 1500 and 2000 people took to the roads of South Carolina up to Mt. Mitchell in North Carolina. It was awesome! I road down with three friends I race cross with. The event started at 6:30am in Spartanburg, SC so that meant I had to hit the awful waffle at about 4:00am. Anyways...we started on time and had a police escort for the entire trip. We even had the local TV helicopter flying above for awhile.
So the ride "race" is 102 miles and 11,000 plus feet of climbing. I'm pretty sure myself and one of my friends started in something like 1000 place. No worries because you ride the flats and a few little hills for almost 80 miles. After 80 miles you better hope you saved something in your legs because it’s 22 miles for climbing. It was fun watching all the flatlanders take off at the beginning and blow up at the start of the climb. One of the guys I road down with got 5th place and did it in 5hours 25min. Smoking! Another guy did it in 6hours 20min, and for myself I got a 6hour 30min placing. Once again it was an awesome event. The off road race to Mt. Mitchell is in July. 63 miles and over 11,000ft of climbing on the dirt. I cannot wait!

Thanks.

Maybe some local stations but that's about it. Are you getting ready for the big race in NB?

G-ZUS! Damn Kirby nice work!
6.5 hours to do 110 miles with all that climbing...I always knew you were an animal and this only proves it!
I'm not worthy!
